FAQ - CFDS/CDFA COURSE PROGRAM MERGER

FDA is no longer offering the CFDS Training and Certification program. Please read below for further information on impacts to Members and CFDS Students

QUESTIONS YOU MAY HAVE REGARDING THIS CERTIFICATION MERGER

IS THE FDA MERGING WITH IDFA?

The FDA is merging the CERTIFICATION PROGRAM FOR CFDS ONLY. FDA will continue to offer our popular Teleclasses and Webinars on topics that are relevant to the Divorce Financial Professionals - Attorneys, CPAs, Financial Planners, Mediators, and Arbitrators.

WILL FDA CONTINUE TO RECEIVE AND REPORT CE CREDITS TO CFP BOARD?

Yes - FDA will continue to be a CFP sponsor through at least 2017. We will submit all eligible teleclasses we offer for CE consideration. (Please watch for eligibility notations on class offerings).

WILL FDA RECEIVE AND REPORT CE CREDITS TO IDFA?

Yes - FDA is now a CE sponsor with the IDFA. We will submit all eligible teleclasses we offer for CE consideration. (Please watch for eligibility notations on class offerings).

HOW WILL THIS CERTIFICATION MERGER AFFECT THE CURRENT MEMBERS OF FDA?

All Current FDA Members have been notified by joint communique from FDA/IDFA, that effective March 2017, their current CFDS certification will be merged with IDFA and that they will become IDFA members (if not already a member), with CDFA certification.

ALL Current FDA Members will receive the following:

  • Continued use of CFDS Designation through 12/31/17
  • Waived FDA Membership Renewal Fee for 2017
  • Continued listing on the FDA Business Directory in 2017
  • Continued receipt of notifications, newsletters, class offerings

Current FDA Members who are NOT currently IDFA Members also receive:

  • Will be formally grand fathered into the CDFA certification, and become an IDFA member. No course purchase or exam will be required for the CDFA designation.
  • Will receive a substantial discount on 1st year IDFA Membership fee (In lieu of FDA membership fee)

Current FDA Members who are already IDFA Members also receive:

  • Will receive a special discount offer for a future IDFA Conference(In lieu of FDA membership fee)

WHAT WILL CURRENT FDA MEMBERS BE REQUIRED TO DO TO CONVERT FDA MEMBERSHIP TO IDFA MEMBERSHIP?

Please check your current FDA directory listing and notify us of any changes needed. You will remain an FDA member in 2017, as well as become an IDFA member in March 2017. Other than membership information updates, there is nothing you need to provide or do at this time.

WHAT HAPPENS TO MY FDA MEMBERSHIP?

All current FDA Members will remain FDA members in 2017. Your membership renewal fee is waived this year (a $75.00 savings). You will continue to be listed on the FDA Business Directory, have use of the CFDS designation through 12/31/17, and receive newsletters and course offers.

WHEN WILL THIS TRANSITION TAKE PLACE?

The transition for FDA Members will begin in March 2017 and you will receive a joint communique from FDA/IDFA. CFDS students will be transitioned to IDFA when they successfully complete the course and both exams - but no later than June 30, 2017.

HOW MUCH WILL THE MEMBERSHIP DUES BE FOR IDFA?

FDA Members who are NOT currently IDFA members will receive a discount for their first year of membership, and will pay $125.00. FDA Members who are already IDFA members will continue to pay their yearly rate. Please note that all FDA members' 2017 renewal fees have been waived, which is a $75.00 savings to each current member. After 2017, IDFA will notify members of the current renewal rate.

WHAT ARE THE MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS FOR IDFA?

IDFA will be providing all new members with information on their continued certification requirements. If you have any questions related to IDFA membership, please contact the them for further requirements information.

HOW WILL THIS CERTIFICATION MERGER AFFECT EXISTING CFDS STUDENTS?

How does this Merger Affect our existing CFDS Students?

  • All Students were notified in November 2016 and then again in January 2017 that they would need to fully complete CFDS course review and successfully pass their exams no later than June 30, 2017.

CFDS Graduates meeting the above criteria for graduation, no later than June 30, 2017, will receive:

  • Use of the CFDS Designation through 12/31/17
  • Receive 13.5 CE credits through the CFP Board
  • Member listing on the FDA Business Directory in 2017
  • All FDA member notifications, newsletters, class offerings
  • Will be formally grand fathered into the CDFA certification and become an IDFA member No course purchase or exams for the CDFA designation will be required
  • Receive 1st year IDFA Membership at no cost (In lieu of FDA membership)

CFDS Graduates who do not complete the above criteria for graduation by June 30, 2017, will not receive CFDS designation, nor be grand fathered into the CDFA certification program.
