Today's financial issues of divorce are complex and vast. Many
couples going through divorce wind up in court - a very costly process.
They argue over financial details that could have been resolved
many months earlier, netting each spouse with a larger share of
the marital assets.
When there are assets to divide, a Certified Financial Divorce Practitioner® needs
to be consulted. This exploding profession is proof that a CFDP® is
needed in the great majority of divorce cases.
The Certified Financial Divorce Practitioner®,
(CFDP®) is a financial professional who is trained in the specific
financial and tax aspects of divorce. They are taught about the
divorce process and in the event that their client does not settle
and goes to court, they learn how to be an expert witness in court.
- The financial reports generated by the CFDP® are instrumental
to providing needed information in the collaborative case.
The collaborative team is made up of the husband and wife, two
lawyers (one for each), and may include a therapist/coach and
a financial divorce professional. They sign an agreement to work
as a team to settle and not go to court. This results in faster
resolution, lower fees, and less stress on all parties, including
the children.
- The role of the financial divorce specialist in a litigated
case is just as important. With their knowledge of how
tax law in divorce treats division of property, alimony, child
support, and division of retirement plans, they provide the client's
lawyer invaluable information and support.
